São Roque de Minas

São Roque de Minas is a municipality located in the southwest of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Founded in 1938, it has a rich history linked to the gold exploration in the 18th century and the coffee cycle in the 19th century. Its main tourist attraction is the Serra da Canastra National Park, which houses the source of the São Francisco River and breathtaking landscapes, such as the famous Casca D'Anta waterfall. In addition, the municipality is known for its typical cuisine, with emphasis on the Canastra cheese, one of the most famous in Brazil.

São José do Barreiro - MG

São José do Barreiro is a district of São Roque de Minas, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. In the past, the region was inhabited by Caiapó indigenous people and was later discovered by bandeirantes in search of gold and diamonds. During the colonial period, São José do Barreiro developed as an important coffee production center and participated in the struggle for Brazil's independence. Today, the city has around 2,000 inhabitants and is known for its beautiful natural landscapes, such as Serra da Canastra and its waterfalls, which attract tourists from all over the world.

Cachoeira Casca D'Anta

Casca D'Anta Waterfall is one of the most famous and beautiful waterfalls in Brazil, located in the Serra da Canastra National Park, in Minas Gerais. The main waterfall has a height of about 186 meters and is formed by the São Francisco River, which originates in the Serra da Canastra.

To reach the waterfall, visitors must hike a trail of approximately 7 km (round trip) that leads to the Casca D'Anta viewpoint. During the hike, it is possible to observe the local fauna and flora, as well as other smaller waterfalls along the way.

There is infrastructure in place to support visitors, including bathrooms, parking, and picnic areas. It is important to note that access to the waterfall may be closed during periods of heavy rain, as the access road may become impassable.

Nascente

Nascente História do Rio São Francisco

The São Francisco River is one of the most important rivers in Brazil, with over 2,800 km of length, crossing five Brazilian states. Although there are several sources that can be considered the beginning of the river, one of the most well-known is located in the Serra da Canastra National Park in Minas Gerais. The river flows north, crossing the Cerrado region and entering the Caatinga, where it becomes one of the main water resources for the local population. Regardless of the chosen source, the São Francisco is a symbol of national identity and an essential resource for the economy and lives of the communities that live along its banks.
